hard drive partition problem :(
If I did it using third party software, I would want to have each DOS, 98 and XP on a primary, right? But when say XP was started, would the other two primary partitions necessarily have to be hidden to XP or not? I read somewhere that Windows is "unhappy" with having more then one primary partition.

Windows XP and FAT32
I just noticed someting strange about XP's explorer. It displays hidden (inactive) primary partitions as logical drives, starting above last CD-ROM drive letter. As far as I knew, only one primary partition can be active (on the first HD) at a time, making the other ones "invisible". So how can Explorer display

Boot.Ini and recovery Console
I always suggest that a separate primary partition be created on HD0 to install XP a long with ME on its own primary partition, where whenever one primacy partition is active the other one is always hidden. This is because no 2 primary partitions can be active at the same time. Thus ME is always hidden from XP and

Further to the above, I have never tried this so someone else will have to advise if it will work, but: Once you have gotten your XP partition shrunk, perhaps a copy of the entire XP system to CDROM, including system and hidden files, might work as a restore disk. Just a thought and I am most definitely not au

Secondary Hard Drive
These are hidden system files in the root of the system partition. To see the files you may have to go in the Folder Options and enable the option to see hidden and system files. I was working only with the full XP, and recovery console installed there and added itself to that boot.ini, and yet somehow the entry for one of the other XP's from disk1, was removed from the other boot.ini (on mini system partition) even though both OS and system drive were hidden. The nerve of it!

Hidden Partition.
The partition must obviously not be hidden for Windows to use that pagefile. Use only one pagefile in one unhidden partition per hard disk. This helps performance because Windows will first attempt to use pagefiles in partition on hard disks other than the partition in which Windows is installed to permit

DELL (8200) hidden partition
I would love to create space with PM but unfortuantely it absolutely does not see the hidden partition and, in fact, doesn't even give me the option to hide or unhied anything as it is all "greyed out". If PM doesn't even see the xp partition, then I don't know what would! "Kevin Potts" <newserver at bigfoot.com>
